"The Light That Keeps Returning"

artist: steve slimm

paintings for inner stillness and re-wilding the soul

A 7-Day Fine Art Exhibition in Your Living Room.

Cornish artist Steve Slimm pauses his studio practice to personally guide these works into their New Forever Homes.

TITLE: cccc

There is a quality of light that does not arrive all at once.

It returns gradually—almost unnoticed at first. A slight shift in tone, a softening of edges, a sense that something long held in stillness is beginning to move again.

This exhibition gathers works that sit within that returning.

Rooted largely in the Cornish landscape, the paintings move between observation and openness. Coastlines, horizons, and weathered forms appear, but they are not fixed. They loosen, dissolve, and re-form—less as depictions of place, more as responses to the changing conditions of light and presence.

What emerges is not a record of a season, but a recognition of a process.

Light does not simply illuminate the land—it alters it. It reveals and conceals in equal measure. It shifts what can be seen, and how it is seen. In these works, that shifting becomes central. Colour opens. Space expands. Structure softens just enough to allow something less defined to come through.

Alongside the more recognisable landscapes, a number of abstract works are included—not as departure, but as continuation. Here, the land is no longer referenced directly, yet the same movement remains. The same sense of emergence, of something returning without needing to be named.

There is no single viewpoint offered.

Instead, the paintings invite a slower way of looking—one that does not seek to resolve too quickly, but allows the work to unfold over time. What is given is not immediate clarity, but a space in which perception can adjust.

The title speaks simply.

Not of a dramatic arrival, nor of a fixed moment—but of something ongoing. A return that happens again and again, regardless of whether it is noticed.

And perhaps that is what is being encountered here.

Not the light itself—
but the quiet recognition of its presence,
and the subtle change it brings with it.

How Our Exhibitions Work

Unlike many art websites, we do not operate like a shop. It's important to us that you have the best experience possble here, and know that it's not all about making purchases. Our 'permanent' collections are open to purchase proposals, as well as some pieces offered directly for sale through 'buy now' buttons.

However, for the temporary exhibitions, it works somewhat differently. Follow the link below to find out more and to see the show.

This Exhibition Will End In:

Please feel free to ask anything about the pieces. I can send more images to include current framing, etc. It's also possible to reframe anything, if it's not to your taste. I prefer to deal with enquiries on WhatsApp if at all possible. My number is:

"Many of the works that leave my studio do so through a simple collector plan that allows them to be welcomed into their new home immediately."

Payment Alternatives

With this kind of exhibition, there is no Buy Now to purchase the artwork immediately. This allows you to express interest without obligation.

Pay by Instalments

Should you prefer to pay in instalments, we have an in-house plan to cater for your personal budget - for as long as you need.

See The Paintings

Before You Continue . . .

Some encounters deserve more space. Imagine the Googenheim or Tate squashed into a thin block of flats?!

Paintings will always reveal more when viewed slowly on a larger screen.

If you like, I can send you a quiet invitation to return later and experience the exhibition fully?

Of course, you’re welcome to continue exploring here too.
